Can I buy things online with a prepaid gift card?

stylinpat asked:
I heard about Visa having a gift card but if I can use it online, how can I enter the gift card information? If it doesn’t have a name on it or it says a gift for you, how would I enter it in? I don’t have a debit/credit card so I don’t really know what to do here.

There is usually a website on the back of the card. Get online and register the card to a name and address… use that info to make your purchase. HOWEVER those cards can NOT be used for reoccuring sales sites with a monthly charge… just so you know.

once you’re in the checkout there should be a drop down list on type of card. there is an option on that list that says “visa gift card”

I also currently have a prepaid visa gift card. The card is set up like a regular debit/credit card.
#1. So all you have to do is enter the 16 digit number on the front of the card where asked for your purchase.
#3.next, enter the “good thru” date and year which is located below the 16 digit number. for example mine is: 05/12, which is May 2012
#4.then there is a 3 digit security code on the back of the card in the right corner. You will also enter that number where asked.
#5Then make sure you fill out all other requirement fields even your name and your address. Click on submit purchase and the your done
its easy
and you can buy anything you want from any store whether its online or not. Have fun shopping!

Yes you can. The site in which you are shopping will ask how you are purchasing the items. The selections will be gift card, credit card or store credit card.

Both VISA and Mastercard gift cards can be used at online stores. You enter them as your payment just as if they are a normal VISA or Mastercard credit card.
There are two issues that frequently pop up:
When the store goes to authenticate your card it fails due to the address. A regular credit card has an actual address tied to it. The gift card obviously does not. Some web sites adapt to this – others don’t.
When the tax and shipping are added in the total price exceeds the amount on the gift card.

Yes, you can. But you need to first register the prepaid gift card with the card issuer (add your name and billing address to the card). Then when you shop online, complete the name and address with the same name and billing address you provided the gift card issuer when you registered the card. That way, they will be able to match your name and billing address with the one on file for the gift card, just like they do for credit cards.
